856% increase in subscribers
How we scaled a brand new rum subscription by over 200% without increasing media spend, by replacing one ad with two hundred.
The brief
Craft Gin Club had launched a rum subscription into a market where their gin product was already established. The brief was to scale the new product without increasing the media budget behind it.
That meant the growth had to come from the creative, not from spend.
The challenge
Ninety per cent of the monthly Meta budget was sitting behind a single creative asset.
One ad carrying an entire subscription launch is a ceiling and a risk at the same time: there was nothing to test new audiences with, no way to scale past what that one ad could deliver, and nothing to fall back on the week it stopped working.
What we did
Every ad was briefed off one persona and one position. Here is what that meant in practice.
Produced and tested 200+ distinct ads
Varied angles, concepts, audience niches and product messaging, so the account had genuine diversity to learn from rather than variations of the same idea.
Built the offer around a comparison
We challenged how people valued the subscription: £26 for a supermarket bottle of rum, against £26 for a handpicked bottle, premium mixers, snacks and free delivery. That comparison became the account's best-performing angle.
Mapped ads across the funnel
An ABO testing structure placed each concept at the right funnel stage, so cold-audience ads and retargeting ads were judged on their own terms.
Bespoke landing pages and voucher codes
Each ad was paired with its own landing page and unique voucher code, giving complete conversion tracking down to the individual creative.
The results
- 2,106new subscriptions in the period, up from 961
- −50%CPA, down from £60 to £30 on flat spend
- +858%uses of the rum product voucher codes
- 201%increase in paid search sign-ups alongside
- Googleopened as a new channel for the business
Atomic Clock didn't feel like an agency, they felt like true partners. In just five months they boosted our paid social sign-ups by 856% and paid search by 201%, all while reducing CPAs.
